After last week's tragic events, I feel like I should have some post about our culture of school shootings, but I'm still processing. There are difficult conversations schools need to have about keeping our buildings secure. There are difficult conversations society needs to have about guns. We can't just continue to do what we have always done and wait out the news cycle to avoid having those talks simply because they're messy and uncomfortable. I don't have the answer, but what I do know is that the best way to make students feel safe is not with locks or legislation, but with the relationships we develop with and between them every day. So let's focus on the small stuff while we fight for the big stuff.
